Muslin
Kona Cotton
Raw Silk
Silk Habotai
Muslin is easy to hand needle and has a subtle visual texture.
Kona cotton is a durable high-quality fabric with intense colors.
Nubby raw silk, or silk noil, has a slightly rough texture and absorbs color beautifully.
Sumptuous silk habotai quilts up splendidly by hand or machine.

Please remember: Due to different monitor configurations the colors you see on your monitor may only approximately represent the colors of the actual fabric.  But be assured - this fabric is yummy!

Materials: Cotton or silk, Procion MX fiber reactive dyes

Care and feeding: These fabrics have been rinsed and machine washed multiple times during the dye process, so are preshrunk and, obviously, machine washable and dryable.

For the cottons an initial wash in hot (140º F or hotter) water is recommended.

I suggest washing any quilting fabrics in Synthropol (available through Dharma Trading Co. and many quilt shops). Many regular detergents contain soda ash and other additives that will set any excess dye left in the fabric. On the other hand, Synthropol works well for both commercial and hand-dyed fabrics because it holds excess dye in solution during the wash cycle, helping to prevent bleeding.

Silks will deteriorate if exposed to harsh detergents, high heat or extreme temperature changes, so please treat them kindly.

Procion MX dyes are fairly colorfast and fade resistant. As with all fabrics, though, if the fabric is hung or draped in direct sunlight for an extended period of time some fading will occur.
